Western Massage (WM)

Western Massage or better known as Swedish massage is what one would typically find in a spa or massage therapy chain. This style of massage is characterized by its long flowing strokes used to promote circulation, relaxation and tension relief. Massage sessions typically last for 60 minutes and a full body session includes the back, glutes, legs, arms, neck and sometimes face and scalp.

Clinic Descriptions

Neuro-Structural Bodywork (NSB)

NSB is an advanced style of bodywork, incorporating deep tissue techniques, myofascial release and neuro-muscular re-education techniques. This style of bodywork is designed to combat chronic pain, tension and acute or chronic sporting injuries. An NSB session is very different from a Western Massage in that it is more pin pointed and the therapist uses a reduced amount of cream/lotion. Typically, the client will have “trouble areas” that they would like the therapist to focus on. 60-minute sessions can vary dramatically depending on the client’s needs. A 60-minute session may be limited to focus on 2 to 3 areas of the body - for example - back, neck and shoulders.

Shiatsu (AS)

Shiatsu is a style of Japanese bodywork based on the theoretical framework of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM is based on the theory that all dysfunction in the body comes from an imbalance in Qi or "life force" energy. Clients stay fully clothed and lie comfortably on a mat on the floor. The therapist uses acupressure - pin pointed compression to points along channels (called Meridians) on the body. These points can have excessive or stagnant Qi. The therapist’s goal is to restore balance to the body by manipulating these points to open these channels and allowing Qi to flow evenly. A typical session will also involve light stretching and leave the client feeling re-energized and rejuvenated.

Energy Mastery (EM)

Energy Mastery is Kali Institute’s original design of a structural bodywork session with emphasis on setting personal intentions and connecting to universal energy. Clients are generally fully clothed and positioned on a table or mat. This session is designed to be very quiet with occasional prompts from the practitioner and lots of deep breathing. A 60-minute EM session will include sustained pressure holds, flowing and sweeping strokes, as well as stretching and opening the body - designed to ‘melt’ or ease tension.
